Details Emerge for PSP Minis Development

August 26th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: PSP Minis | 1 Comment »

Sony-psp-playstation-portab A new platform category starts at MGB as last week we got loads of information on PSP Minis. This might be the next easy platform for mobile game developers to launch their games onto.

With the PSP Minis, Sony is offering mobile game developers a chance to start developing for their PSP range of devices without putting in heavy investments.

Of course, it is not exactly like mobile development as a having the consumer device will not get you anywhere. This means you do have to purchase a special dev kit with special hardware. This package is priced at 1200,- which is not that bad for a console.

Just like Apple, Sony will have an approval chain to go through. The approval process focuses on the stability of the games on the various PSP hardware platforms out there. There are no details known about checks on the content itself nor if they will allow adult and gambling.

    1. This is very interesting, though I do wonder if this has the potential to be another WiiWare type deal for indie developers where the smaller but established ones are locked out?
