Opera Booted Off GetJar

March 9th, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

As a response to launching their own App Store, Opera is likely to see downloads of their popular browser go down for a bit as GetJar booted the app from their app store.

GetJar announced the move via twitter where it recommends consumers to “Download Bolt, UCweb, Dolphin, Layar or Sqauce and others as needed”. Clearly GetJar is not eager to promote other’s app stores on it’s own (and they are kinda right with that).

Looking at the metrics from Opera, their new app store is already getting pretty popular. The company says it’s app store was already visited by 15 million users in February (before the announcement) and generating 700.000 downloads a day.
