Sony had a nice little surprise yesterday as the company showed off the NGP, the followup to their successful PSP handheld console. We gathered all the news from the net to give you the full specs of this little beast.
Exterior
The NGP looks a lot like the original PSP. The design of the PSPgo seems to have been abandoned. The device features camera’s on the front and back for augmented reality. A multi-touchpad on the back supports the 5” 960×544 multi-touchscreen on the front so fingers are not in the way of gaming action (smart). The device also holds two analogue sticks.
Hardware
This little beast runs on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and a quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU making it one of the strongest handheld gaming devices (for now). Looking at sensors, the NGP seems to have it all. accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and GPS.
The device can connect to the world over Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi b/g/n and 3G. What plans Sony has with 3G are unknown right now.
Games
During the presentation in Japan, Sony showed off Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet 2, Uncharted, Killzone Resistance and FIFA. The NGP will no longer use UMD’s but will switch to memorysticks in order to service retail partners. Sony learned well from the PSPgo. No words on support for Mini’s but it is unlikely that Sony will abandon those.
The NGP will be available by the end of this year.
