Windows Marketplace Lacks Security

October 7th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Windows Mobile | No Comments »

Microsoft Shortly after the launch of Windows Marketplace, developers seem dissatisfied with the quality of the security. It seems relatively easy to hack mobile games and applications offered on the store.

Developer Chainfire from the XDA Developers forum complaints that the only security in place is not enough. It only deletes the CAB file after installation. By changing the download folder, the remove functionality is not working which means the cab file is available to the consumer.

Next to that, the cab file holds no signature. This means it can be shared with other Windows Mobile users without any technical knowledge. Microsoft has not responded yet to these accusations. But world-wide reports come in from other developers that confirm this 'hack'. At this moment, Windows Marketplace holds 246 apps in total.
