Capcom’s Smurfs’ Village game went prime-time on Dutch television tonight during an episode of consumer show ‘Kassa’. The program warned parents not to install the app.
This action from Kassa follows on a discussion with one of the editors of our sister publication The Gadgeteers where the TV makers gathered information about the issues with in-app payments.
The show contacted Capcom who said Apple was to blame for not making it more difficult to perform in-app payments. Apple responded by saying it is something parents should take care off themselves.
Needless to say, this is and remains a grey area. We applauded Apple for making mobile purchases easy and now it is backfiring. We hope at some point Apple will just add a setting to iOS where consumers can say they want to be prompted for a password on any purchase.
Congratulations
