According to the most recent numbers from Nielsen, 28% of US cellphones is a smartphone. Amongst those consumer that bought a new phone over the past six months, 41% chose a smartphone, up 35% compared to Q2.
Looking at Europe, the numbers of the UK are similar to those in the US. Spain is something different as 37% of Spanish cellphone owners own a smartphone. Symbian remains the most popular OS in Europe.
In the US, BlackBerry remains the most popular OS, followed closely by Apple’s iOS. Android keeps climbing and ranks third, beating Windows Mobile. Windows Phone 7 is not in the list as the devices had not reached the market yet.
Apple has most consumers under 44 while 50% of Android owners are under 35. Nielsen also broke down the ethnic diversity of smartphone owners.
