Apple to put NFC Chips in the iPhone 5!?

November 2nd, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

According to rumors, the iPhone 5 will be outfitted with NFC chips so it is able to communicate with other devices. NFC equipped phones are still rare items. Until now, that market has been dominated by Nokia.

The rumors say Nokia is already field-testing iPhones with NFC chips from Dutch chip vendor NXP Semiconductors. Apple could be using the NFC chips to aid the introduction of contactless payments as well as remote computing. This would mean that the iPhone could log people in to their desktops and allow them access to (for example) data from their home computer while at work.
