Panasonic Works on New Handheld Console Named the ‘Jungle’

October 6th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Gaming Gear | No Comments »

Though we hardly know Panasonic in the EU and US for its gaming consoles, the company has quite a history of them including their official Nintendo GameCube/mini stereo they sold in Asia.

Now, the company is building a new handheld console to compete with their old partner, Nintendo. The new device, which is called the ‘Jungle’, seems to be inspired by the Nintendo DS range of consoles as it is a clamshell design with the primary screen on top. Unlike Nintendo and more like the unsuccessful PSPgo, the device is aimed at digital distribution.

The bottom half of the device doesn’t seem to have an actual screen, but it does seem to have a touchpad, qwerty keyboard and two d-pad’s. Connectivity wise, the device seems to be equipped with a 3.5” jack, mini USB and mini HDMI connectors. The device is expected to run on some sort of Linux and the first confirmed game for it is Battlestar Galactica Online from Bigpoint. The website doesn’t provide much more information.
