Last week, Greystripe has updated their SDK to be compliant with the new iPhone 4 and iOS 4.0. This update is the first major update the company executes over the air, without help from the developers.
Traditionally, developers had to update the code in their apps to facilitate updates from advertising networks. With this over the air update, Greystripe eliminates the need to take an app offline to update it (and lose revenues while waiting for a new approval). It also means Greystripe is performing update to code from developers without their participation and creating two concerns for developers.
The first would be compatibility of the SDK with the app code itself. If something in the new SDK collides with the code of the app it is running in, developers could suddenly be facing a non-working app. The second issue might be that hackers could use the networks for man-in-the-middle attacks but that highly depends on how secure Greystripes code and infrastructure is.
“Greystripe is committed to helping developers maximize their revenue with the least amount of effort. “ said Erica Chriss, VP of Strategy and Publisher Development for Greystripe. “Any developers negatively affected by Apple’s new OS or the change in the developer terms and conditions should contact Greystripe. Our easy to integrate SDK can have your apps ad-enabled in a matter of hours.”
Congratulations
