During the Palm Developer Day, Palm announced a host of new features for their next WebOS update that is about to happen somewhere during fall 2010 (with the hope they are still around).
After the update, WebOS will be offering a lot of new API’s for developers. Amongst the new API’s are low-level access to camera and microphone, Media Indexer (for developing Audio and Video apps), upgraded encryption/security, support for Bonjour/Zeroconf, Bluetooth and serial port profile access.
Palm will also switch on javascript for background processes to ease the multitasking experience for apps build on web technologies. Palm will also by adding db8 cloud support so a lot of the data handling logic can happen in the cloud instead of on-device.
Palm will also be adding full HTML 5 support to the OS and they will bring in their Mojo Core. Mojo Core allows webapp developers to make use of WebOS based services without the need for developing a native app.
Palm will also improve their WebOS App Catalogue store. Palm did not give out much details, but the screenshots show something which looks a lot like a mashup between the Apple App Store and Android Market.
Congratulations
