Two New Operators will Launch in Holland

April 22nd, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

The Netherlands used to have 5 big operators. Due to acquisitions, only three where left and so, the government decided to put the old 2.6Ghz spectrums up for auction again which resulted in two new parties entering the market

The first operator to enter the market will be a joint venture of Ziggo and UPC. UPC already owns an MVNO on the T-Mobile network. The JV will be called Ziggo 4 and bought 40Mhz of the spectrum.

The second to enter the market is Tele2. Tele2 also operated as an MVNO on the Dutch market, so it will also take its existing customer base to its own network. Tele2 also acquired a 40 Mhz license.

The remaining spectrum is divided between KPN (20Mhz), Vodafone (20Mhz) and T-Mobile (10Mhz) and 60 Mhz is reserved for future auctions.
