Codemasters to Partner with Glu

February 14th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Brand Licensing | No Comments »

It has been silent around Glu for some time since they started with their IPO, but today some good news was announced. Glu has inked down a deal to distribute and develop Codemasters Mobile games on their network. This deal comes at a good time now the IPO is entering its final stages and rumors about the expiration of their SEGA licenses go around the industry, making Codemasters one of their most important assets for the future.

In the past, Codemasters has been trying to enter the mobile market on their own strength, which clearly didn’t go as fast as they hoped. Back then, deals where signed with TelcoGames as well as Player X. As a trial, Glu was already publishing the mobile edition of Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 in which they clearly did a great job. The first Codemasters Mobile game to launch is LMA Manager 2008.

"This relationship with Codemasters brings an exciting set of franchises to our growing portfolio," said Kristian Segerstrale, managing director of EMEA, Glu Mobile. "We’re delighted to partner with a leading publisher like Codemasters and look forward to working together to develop great mobile games and innovative ways of marketing them to consumers together."

"As part of Codemasters’ strategic drive across all platforms of digital entertainment, Glu’s momentum in the market was key for us in creating this alliance. The affiliation will deliver Codemasters’ brands with a proven sales and distribution network that will leverage our content to the growing wireless consumer base. As technology advances, Codemasters will focus its development expertise in embracing wireless as the functionality between formats to add to the overall gaming experience" added Matt Davies, director of Codemasters Mobile.
