WTC: World Telemedia Conference Day 1

April 26th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Events & Conferences | No Comments »

WorldtelemediaThough the World Telemedia Conference in Amsterdam is not the premium pick for most mobile game developers when it comes to showcasing themselves, but it does bring the mobile gambling and adult entertainment industry to Amsterdam.

Day one was a slow start for us. All the real candy conferences are tomorrow and so is the Adult expo. We did get a chance to speak to a few interesting companies though.

Dialogue

UK based Dialogue presented us their new wap shop system where content developers can set up their own shops to sell mobile games. With I-Play as their primary client, the company shows confidence in the technology they have. With a number of similar solutions being available throughout the world, we will soon sit down to try and discover why this platform might be a good tool to go B2C.

Talking B2C with Netsize

Talking about B2C, one of the persons at Netsize let us know it is a difficult step. They offer a similar service to Dialogue and are doubtful if the average mobile game developer can acquire a big enough footprint to make it a serious channel to market. He also told me that it did work very well for a big French publisher.

The Gamble

Before exiting the show, we had a quick chat with Cometa Wireless Gaming Systems. They just re-branded their company a bit and they are positioned well into mobile gambling. Robert Anderson, the CEO is very positive about the market potential in the UK where they just launched their services. Big news from Cometa will follow within the next two weeks according to Robert.

Creating a Brand

mFactory promoted a new brand they developed themselves. The brand is called Cartoon Chuck which looks amazingly lot like Chuck Norris, the once big and tough cowboy. Currently Cartoon Chuck is not much more then videos and wallpapers, but that will change soon as mFactory has a few games in mind they will publish soon.

What we missed out on

Tonight is filled with parties in Amsterdam. The ultimate hotspot is the SuppaClub which is big enough to fit something like 4 parties on that exact spot. We will surely be there next time, but tomorrow is an early start as we will cover day 2 at World Telemedia Conference which traditionally means the adult business part shows up. Also there are interesting conferences we will try to track.
