After Java Verified and Symbian Signed, yet another “must have” enters the mobile market that should bring an end to the mayhem of violence and foul language in mobile games. Yes, PEGI goes mobile.
Backed by the trust of EU commissioners, PEGI (Pan European Game Information) has announced to start rating mobile games as well, making sure the players and their parents know what to expect in the next mobile game they buy.
“The protection of children as users of online technologies is of great importance for the Commission,” said Viviane Reding, European commissioner for education and culture. “The internet has added a while new dimension to the various forms of media consumption. This includes videogames which increasingly constitute one of the favourite leisure activities of Europeans of all ages and social categories. This is a good example of an industry initiative developed in co-operation with other stakeholders which allows a rapid and flexible solution to the problems of new technologies and greater safety to our children”
The system should apply to all mobile games packaging by the end of the year… mobile games packaging? After 18 months of setting thngs up, they might have noticed there hardly is any packaging. So we wonder if they require sales channels to insert the icons.
