Samsung Patents Clamshell Joystick Design

July 18th, 2007 by Anonymous Blogger Posted in Gaming Gear | No Comments »

SamsungIn a move to improve the mobile gaming experience on the hardware level, we have seem many improvements over the last few years which more or less started with the N-Gage. Now, Samsung takes the good old clamshell and turns it into a joystick according to their latest patent.

According to the drawings, the joystick would be made of the entire keypad which would be folded into a vertical position, leaving the screen as the grip that needs to be placed in the second hand. Also, the fire button will be located at the bottom of the keypad which would be the top of the joystick position.

SamsungpatentThe turning points look a bit simple in the drawings (click to enlarge), and we certainly feel that a tense player might risk separating the keypad and screen during a nice mobile gaming session. So we wonder what the final product will look like.
