MTV’s Shockwave Delivers to Games to Nokia, Invests $ 500 Million

August 20th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Distribution | No Comments »

MtvMTV seems to take the gaming space more serious than before. After turning many music TV stations into TV stations that broadcast teen TV shows to retain their public, MTV is now investing $ 500 million in gaming and has closed a nice little deal with Nokia.

Judy McGrath, MTV’s chair and CEO, told Reuters: “As we take our brands narrow and deep to serve our targeted, niche audiences, we’re putting well over $500 million behind building our games business across all of the brands in our portfolio. I’d like to see more game applications on some of our current big brands across the music group.”

MTV’s Shockwave.com, part of the MTVN Kids & Family Group, has closed a deal to deliver Flash Lite mini games to Nokia’s mobile gaming community. This way, MTV’s mobile games will be distributed over Nokia’s content discoverer client that is pre installed on many millions of mobile phones world wide.

The deal will kick off with 20 games from the Shockwave Mini’s catalogue including Downhill Train and Happy Hours. New games based on MTV IP will be released later. The games will be available in 24 markets.

“Nokia is pleased to offer the Shockwave Minis line-up of Flash Lite games to our customers,” said Damien D’Souza, head of branded content, Forum Nokia – EMEA. “Shockwave Minis make it easy for mobile handset owners to jump in and experience a fun, casual game playing experience, at a great value, with intuitive delivery through our Content Discoverer Client.”
