Researchers at Park Associates have indexed the mobile gaming expectations under consumers, leading to the conclusion that consumers still expect only a casual gaming experience when picking up their mobile phones.
This conclusion is drawn in their latest mobile games industry report: Frontier: Portable and Mobile Gaming. According to the report, only 10% of mobile gamers are interested in hardoce or console like gaming. 55% is clearly interested in puzzle and card based mobile games. More then 30% are interested in playing word and arcade games. The graph below shows more details about consumer demands and the difference of mobile and portable gamers (portable being owners of systems like the PSP).
“In the mobile gaming industry, consumer awareness lags behind technological advancements,” said Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, Director, Broadband and Gaming, Parks Associates. “New 3D and multiplayer mobile games look great in demos, but casual games are where the money is and will be for the next few years.”
“Portable game players will maintain strong growth momentum because they provide an experience yet to be matched by mobile phones,” Cai said. “Next-generation players will likely include mobile broadband, which would enhance their value proposition.”
Congratulations
