F-Secure warned about the first malware for the iPhone that can install a trojan virus on unlocked iPhones from Apple.
Though not deemed dangerous according to F-Secure, the trojan does show that the popularity of the iPhone attracts developers of the nasty kind as well. The trojan is hidden in a package called “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”. As the software is aimed purely at the iPhone, owners of the iPod Touch are safe from harm for now.
The software holding the trojan originated from jmwiki.com and was created by an 11 year old kid. The father has ordered removal of the software from the site.
In the past there have been numerous warnings from anti virus companies about possible viruses targeting mobile platforms. Except for the more or less harmless Cabir worm that spread itself via Bleutooth, this never really happened.
