Nokia is acquiring Trolltech in order to strengthen their web to mobile software projects via Trolltech’s Qtopia platform.

With Qtopia, it’s easy to deploy applications over multiple platforms like mobile phones. Qtopia has already been embrased for applications like Skype and Google Earth.

In total, Nokia is offering $ 153 million to acquire Trolltech. Nokia will leave some of the open source licensing models as they are at the moment.

"Trolltech’s deep understanding of open source software and its strong technology assets will enable both Nokia and others to innovate on our device platforms while reducing time-to-market. This acquisition will also further increase the competitiveness of S60 and Series 40." said Kai Oistamo, Executive VP of devices at Nokia
