Avoiding the Operator Deck in Japan

February 20th, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | 1 Comment »

David Collier of Japanese content provider Pikkle explains how content companies in Japan manage to avoid the headaches caused by operator decks in Japan.

First off, Japan seems to become a real Flash Lite market. The Flash Lite technology allows quick development of simple mobile games that function in the browser of a mobile phone. This way, the content developers manage to avoid porting constraints known technologies like J2me. Also, the distribution of Flash Lite games is much more easy, so you don’t need advanced platforms like the operators have put in place. Most of the Flash Lite game development is paid by inserting advertisements or charging monthly fees to consumers.
