Java Goes Open Source

Sun has confirmed that it will provide the last bits of Java under an open-source license. With this announcement, we can finally call Java a full, open-source platform.

Back in 2006, Sun started to make the first bits of Java available to the open-source community, but kept graphical and encryption libraries behind closed doors. These parts of Java represented about 4% of the total. More news will come from the Java One conference in San Francisco, which is happening in about two weeks.
