Glu and HandyGames Team up on Townsmen 6

December 17th, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Distribution | 10 Comments »

Handygames
Townsmen is without doubt one of the biggest brands of HandyGames. With this sixth edition, the game is even exploring a new business opportunity, as Glu will distribute it along Q2 of 2009.

The deal comes a bit as a surprise to us. Though Glu does a lot of distribution for companies like Konami and SEGA, distributing a game that doesn’t hold a huge brand value outside mobile is something new.

Townsmen games are known for their quality in both gameplay and interaction. New dynamic features available on some of the latest mobile handsets will be included, like motion-sensing and touch-screen play. The game will also benefit from improved graphics, an isometric perspective, special effects, a new mini-game, and a new control scheme to make it even more accessible and fun to play.

“The Townsmen series continues to grow in popularity,” said Frank Keeling, MD of Publishing, EMEA, Glu. “We’re delighted to be adding this latest game to our publishing roster, and look forward to a close working relationship with the team at HandyGames

Viel Erfolg und beste Wuensche an die Handy-Games Crew – ich denke der Move war ueberfaellig und wird sich bezahlt machen. 🙂

I believed EA was getting that brand. For sure one of the best game on mobile phones! So dont destroy it Glu!

    3. Newscorp says:

Ahahahahah now Handygames is losing traction with carriers and has to rely on Glu which itself is going bust. Ahahahahah

    4. HandyGames CK says:

      Hi Newscorp,
we have around 25 other titles coming out in 2009. So working together on one title is not really relying on someone else. HAHAHAHA 😉
Losing traction with carriers – not that I know off.
      Have a great day,
      Christopher

      Newscorp,
if you are such expert you can help big companies that are losing track (number of them) and you can earn millions from them if you will be successful 😉 but I doubt. Companies like HG are pioneers of mobile gaming for sure are aware what to do in mobile gaming area.

    6. Newscorp says:

Apologies Allo and Christopher, didn’t mean to insult you. I just find the Glu thing a charade, I wish they would just admit that their business model is flawed and then maybe the sector could progress forward. I am no expert just posting thoughts thats all ! If I knew anything I should have shorted Glu when I guessed it would collapse months ago but I didn’t so I didn’t make any money 🙁

Newscorp perhaps you had a bad day but dont bash or flame against HandyGames. Those guys have not only my respect to be still around, they have the spirit you need. I am more than a fan of Townsmen since Part II and HandyGames surprised me with every new Part. Townsmen5 was published by Disney but who cares its one of the best games and I expect the same of the new title published by Glu
Perhaps you should buy Glu shares again and hope that Townsmen is making some nice revenues for them as well 😉

    9. realist says:

The game is nice and HG is as good a developer as you can find, but this deal is still “mutual clutching at straws.”
To talk about this title having any significant impact other than cost saving and higher sales on HG’s side is quite funny. Glu need a lot more help than this title.

    10. Sam says:

I concur with realist. this title is hardly going to see GLU rock the market.
What is interesting is the departure from the publishing business model by GLU to basically aggregating this title.
