We have to admit it. Not even a full day passed since our ban, and one of the people behind it contacted us to explain the nasty situation which a little experiment got them in…
In the first e-mail, Paul from ThumbThug asked me examples of the comment spam. Since I had deleted the spam from MGB directly, I gave him the last bits I had in the cache of our aggregation system.
As soon as he saw the example's, he knew exactly what went wrong. He paid a service called Magpie to throw advertising on Twitter. Those ads started to live their own live and ended up at various other websites as well and so, we noticed them as spam. He confirmed MGB that he will no longer use the service as he doesn't want his company name to be identified with spam. He also told his employees not to place content spam on blogs like MGB.
So I guess we will drop the ban. Welcome back ThumbThug!
Congratulations
