Glu Goes D2C (Again)

January 29th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Distribution | No Comments »

Glu
In the good old days, there was a very powerful platform on the market called Provision X. It was created by a company called MacroSpace and held a series of options most competitors dreamt about…

A few years later, the company merged with Sorrent to form Glu. In 2007, the company decided it would not move on with it's D2C business. In January of 2007, it sold it's platform to Wmode.

Now, years later, Glu is taking it's mobile games directly to the consumer again. This time, the company hasn't chosen to launch a fully owned platform (that would require a serious investment), but to launch using Movaya.

Glu has started launching the first mobile games a few days ago and expects to have the biggest part of it's portfolio online in a few weeks.

"It has been a great experience working with Movaya to offer Glu's award-winning games directly to our customers," said Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing, Glu. "Through our alliance with Movaya, we have developed a cost-effective solution capable of delivering games directly to mobile devices through the glu.com website."

"Movaya's technologies will enhance how Glu is able to sell its games," said Phil Yerkes, CEO of Movaya. "Rather than relying solely on wireless carriers and other third-party distributors, Glu now has the power to market its products directly to customers. The move allows customers to sample games and stay informed on updates and new offers, and more importantly, creates a new distribution channel to generate additional revenue for Glu."
