Transferring mobile games from one handset to another might become a tandard service soon if it’s up to FusionOne. The company has just signed up Glu as its customer for the technology.
The demand for a service like that of FusionOne became clear after the launch of the N-Gage platform where dozens of consumers where suddenly complaining that they could not transfer their old N-Gage games to their new N-Gage handsets.
Through this deal, consumers who bought mobile games from Glu, can now also transfer their mobile games to their new devices (as long as they are supported of course).
Colemann Parkes concluded in a survey that 13% of the consumers that bought mobile games on their handsets, do that as well for their next. Of those, 78% is concerned that they will loose their content again when switching to a new handset. Needless to say, 96% of them loved the idea of being able to transfer their mobile games.
“Gaming has become an increasingly important part of the overall mobile experience,” said Mohan Sadashiva, senior vice president of marketing for FusionOne. “We want subscribers to be able to take their favorite games with them when they get new phones and continue to enjoy their mobile gaming uninterrupted.”
Previously, FusionOne signed similar deals with Real Games and Zed.

Surely this is for high end games say
i agree – seems like somebody generated a bubble and sold it.
The service is free to the consumer – Carriers like Verizon provide this service as a retention tool.

It all makes sense to offer customers a chance to download their purchased games when they buy a new handset. We have been doing this on 3Uk for the last 2 years and since last year for all games on O2UK. More and more operators offer this as part of their “My account” features. It is also one of many advantages with wrapping games for flexible pricing models.
