During the Pwn2Own hackers event, organizer Tippingpoint challenged the hackers to find exploits for Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile. In the case that an exploit would be found, that hacker would be awarded $10K.
Yet, all 5 OS’s remained clear of any exploits. There was one hacker who did claim an exploit for the iPhone, but he didn’t thing the reward money was enough.
There are a few plausible reasons why the hackers failed. One is that the devices are too limited in memory and processing power to execute various tools. The other is that the event organizer, Tippingpoint, did not reveal the versions of the OS’s in time. Therefore the hackers could not prepare in time.
The organizer does expect some nice exploits for next year.
