Weldon Dodd of The Apple Blog has researched the SEO of the iTunes web preview pages compared to the homepages of various app developers. As it turns out, the web previews have a better placement in Google.
In fact, the official app sites from the developers often rank around the 17th place in the search results while the previews are mostly on top of the list or at least in the first ten results. In 68% of the searches, the iTunes preview ranked better. For a complete analysis, check out the article.
It is more a question of number of incoming links than a question of SEO. Many websites/blogs links to the iTunes page (with or without affiliate link), whereas only a few one links to the developers websites.
