The first new feature for the iPhone OS is the biggest. Multitasking will come to the iPhone though Apple will put some limitations in place to guarantee performance of the device.
Apps will be allowed to run background audio (streaming), Voice over IP, Background LBS, Push Notifications, Local Notifications, Task Completion and Fast app switching. Skype gave a demo.
Multitaskign will not be available on the iPhone 3G.
