3GSM: The Symbian Round-up

Symbian announced a lot of news during 3GSM. Along this post, we will address the most interesting facts of all.

During 2006, Symbian shipped 51.7 million units. This means every second, two Symbian based phones land in the hands of consumers. With the average percentage of mobile games downloaders, we estimate to have a new gamer every 10 seconds.

Devices
Motorola announced theur Rizr Z8 will support Symbian UIQ. Nokia released 5 S60 models. Among them are the 6110 navigator, the N77 and three E series models.

Operators
Telefonica will prioritize Symbian based phones for their smartphone strategies. Telecom Italia, who recently made some Brew deals, announced to boost mobile service innovation with Nokia and Symbian.Vodafone announced their first software licensing package in cooperation with Nokia. T-Mobile announced to improve the capability for S60 licensees to develop devices for T-Mobile.
